PREFACES

In recent years, increasing attention is being given abroad to the thought of St. Shinran. There is justification for the re-examination of the path of this great Buddhist who ended his life 700 years ago after nearly century`s activity. The reason lies in the incomparable purity of his thought and in the direct, honest and unerring manner in which he answered the basic question of humanity.

This Introduction to Shin Buddhism purports only to lead to right understanding. Yet, even an introduction can do much towards clarifying ultimate points when we consider the simple Shin- Teaching that “We become candidates for buddhahood when we believe the Buddha’s Original Vow and call the Nembutsu”.

The present age is a dark one. Many this little book bring new light.
