FOREWORD
The following questions in this series were presented via the Thai embassies in various countries. They were collected and sent to the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Thailand, which undertook to present them to a number of senior Bhikkhus in the hope that they would answer them. However, there has been so far no response therefrom.
Some time ago I was invited by the Foreign Affairs Ministry to give a lecture on Buddhism for its officials who were going to serve a term abroad. The minister was at that time presented the series of questions by th ambassadors, and requested me to help answer those questions.
A survey of the fact came from various sources, a large part of which was from the foreigners who were interested in Buddhism but who were still unable to undertstand some essential purpose and/or other less treated but not less important facets of Buddhist practices.
As a matter of fact, I have attempted the work of this kind (i.e. answering questions) in at least six other volumes in Thai. The present work, therefore, is in line with my prior experiences, the difference being that it is the first one to be rendered in English. This is considering their sources that are international in character.
The present work consists of 168 questions and answers. They are divided into 15 chapters, each being grouped together according to the nature of the questions. The present translation has been attempted by Mr.Siri Buddhasukh, an English lecturer of the Mahamakut Buddhist University. I hereby offer my thankfulness and appreciation for his sacrificial efforts. An acknowledgement will also be extended to Mr. Thanom Butra-Ruang, a special English lecturer of the Mahamakut Buddhist University, who has spent his time proof-reading the whole text with great patience.
May all beings live a happy and peaceful life.
