PREFACE
This essay is based on a lecture entitled “The Meaning of Buddhism and the Value of Art’ which I delivered in January, 1953, under the auspices of the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Calcutta. Upon its appearance in the Bulletin of the Institute for November and December, 1953, it aroused the interest of several friends for whom “Beauty is truth, truth beauty”, and it is at the suggestion of some of them that I am bringing it out in its present form under the new title “Buddhism and Art”.
